Wendy Ponce and Cheryl Shelby of Team Boop Oop a Doop Babes are good friends and co-workers. They each share the desire to lose weight, feel better about themselves and to change their lifestyle to adapt to healthier eating habits.
When Wendy and Cheryl first saw the results of last year’s competition in the paper while on a lunch break, they knew they both wanted to be a part of it. So they rushed to the doctor for a quick physical before signing up for this year’s challenge.
Wendy, who has already started her quest for weight loss, has lost 24 pounds thus far, and Wendy’s quick progression toward lessening the pounds is helping Cheryl to work harder. So much in fact that Cheryl is beginning to lose more weight than Wendy. Wendy, being all too tough on herself asks, “Are you disappointed?” Cheryl simply replies, “Of course not! You’re what motivates me to keep going!”
Wendy and Cheryl are both Employment Services Specialists for the County of San Bernardino. They both lead fairly active lifestyles. Cheryl currently has high blood pressure and high cholesterol, but she is hoping to change that with exercise and a better diet. “It’s hard to turn down the chocolate!” Cheryl admits, “But I’ve been working hard to nix the sweets.”
Wendy and Cheryl walk three times a day and they have recently begun working hard at the gym. “A couple teams are favorites to win,” Cheryl says, “But I want to do the best I can and hopefully I can stay at their level.” Cheryl also believes that as she gets older, being in better shape will help her to overcome the aches and pains that gradually increase with each passing year.
Wendy is hoping to lose weight for her daughter’s wedding later this year. She also says, “I haven’t been able to put much focus on me these past ten years. It’s about time I do something for myself.” Her self-confidence and consistent performance thus far seems to be a strong platform for her success in this competition.
After trying numerous diets with the same results, Wendy and Cheryl have to come to value the advice of their nutritionist, walking regularly, going to the gym and keeping a food journal.
Wendy laughs as she acknowledges, “What better motivation for losing weight than to see your name in the paper with your weight next to it!”
