Leo Dicenzo and Sharie MacDougal want to be in better shape and feel energetic like they did when they were first married. They agree that being in the public eye holds you accountable for your actions. Sharie knew that she would be more likely to stick to losing weight if all of the Victor Valley was counting on seeing her weight stats to decrease in each week’s newspaper. “Besides, my son wants a skinny mom and so do I!” Sharie says.
Leo and Sharie have four children; ages 13, 12, 9 and 8. They want to set an example for their children and not only teach them better eating habits, but they want to be more active with them.
Leo is a Network Engineer and Sharie is a Realtor. They’re constantly on the run, but as they’re mostly driving and sitting, they still lead fairly inactive lifestyles. Because of this, they decided to sign up for the Slim Down Challenge.
Leo and Sharie first became aware of the competition when they saw someone reading about it in the paper. After a quick glance at the back page, they decided they should get involved. The competition is healthy motivation and it’s giving them the drive they need to lose weight. “It’s one thing when you know you have to do it,” Leo says, “but it’s another to make it happen.
Adapting to the active work-out regimen has taken a toll on Leo. “My muscles feel tired. It’s difficult getting through that first tear down,” Leo says, “but it feels good.”
Leo and Sharie have been walking two to three miles a day with their three dogs and children. They admit their dogs, two German Shepard’s and a terrier, seem to walk them, but in some ways, it’s the encouragement they need to walk faster and longer.
Though Sharie can be stubborn, her sense of humor carries her through her change of routine. She is hoping to lose 60 to 75 pounds. Both Sharie and Leo have admitted to be impatient, but they’ve made the decision to stick this one out.
